Amaro Siciliano

The nose of Averna Amaro is vibrant, featuring aromas of dark chocolate, rosemary, juniper, candied orange, and citronella, with layers of spearmint, sage, and vanilla. This aromatic mix underscores its Mediterranean herb base and the citrus essentials like lemon and orange oils.

On the palate, Averna is rich and mouth-coating, presenting a bittersweet balance with clear hints of orange and licorice. This is complemented by notes of myrtle, juniper berries, rosemary, and sage, creating a multifaceted flavor profile that is both invigorating and comforting.

The finish of Averna Amaro is smooth, with a lingering herbal bitterness that is subtle yet distinctive, making it a favorite for enjoying after a meal.

Averna Amaro was first produced in the 19th century by the Benedictine monks of the Abbazia Di Santo Spirito in Caltanissetta, Sicily. The secret recipe was crafted to capture the unique flavors and aromas of the Mediterranean herbs native to the region. In 1868, the recipe was gifted to Salvatore Averna, a local businessman and benefactor of the abbey, as a token of gratitude.
