Aultmore distillery was founded in 1897 by Alexander Edward, one of Scotland’s best-known distillers, during the peak of the late-Victorian whisky boom. Supplied to the big blending houses of the day, AULTMORE single malt's popularity with them gave rise to the distillery's success, having drawn great admiration for the smoothness of its spirit. In fact, its qualities are so fine and well-balanced that it was soon one of just a few single malts rated ‘Top Class’ by industry experts.
The Aultmore 18 Year Old is recognized for its excellent quality, offering a complex yet approachable array of flavors. Its oily mouthfeel beautifully conveys the symphony of flavors, making it a standout Speyside dram that is both engaging and accessible to whisky enthusiasts.
Nose:
The whisky greets you with delightful scents of fresh orchard fruits warmed by the morning sun, blending with the aromas of freshly baked Pasteis de Nata (Portuguese custard tarts) and a gentle touch of sherry. Additional hints of lemon blossom, tall grasses, and gentle oak enhance its complex bouquet, with subtle spices and a hint of cherries rounding out the olfactory experience.
Palate:
On the palate, Aultmore 18 offers the refreshing taste of fresh peach dusted with vanilla sugar, complemented by lemon drops and a hint of greenery. Sherry undertones meld with flavors of warm biscuits and light oak, creating a rich yet balanced profile. A subtle nuttiness and a dash of pepper add depth, with a few drops of water enhancing the green notes and softening the alcohol's warmth, bringing forth a well-rounded and delightful taste.
Finish:
The finish is medium in length, leaving behind impressions of malt, oak, and a gentle kiss of lemon pepper, which linger pleasantly and invite further sips.
