Zwartwater is the culmination of a five-generation journey through faith and surrender, ultimately leading to this iconic Swartland estate, deeply rooted in South African wine history. Once the Johannes family’s story became intertwined with that of Lammershoek, Zwartwater was born. Out of respect and reverence for this iconic Paardeberg jewel, a philosophy was established, to design wines focused on expressing this distinguished site at its highest potential, rather than simply varietal character. The wines are destined to be a clear sensory translation of Lammershoek’s distinct character, complexity, and poise, interpreted in two expressive languages. White and Red.
Description
The act of tasting a wine often compels us to describe it, to find words, to make it expressive. Yet with Zwartwater Red, the first response is a pause: the need to reflect on how such an experience has been captured. Dark spice rises, a lift of red fruit follows, then a sudden bloom of floral fragrance. And then - a sense of space. The lengthy palate and lingering finish urge you to slow down, to notice how the Swartland itself begins to speak. Salt, dust, stone, black olives: not clamouring for attention, but allowing their presence to be quietly felt.
