Malbec Valles

Ideal wine for grilled meats. Zuccardi Malbec Valles also combines very well with lamb cutlets, spicy stews, pasta and pizza as well as mild creamy and more matured cheeses.

The Uco valley, at the foot of the Andes in Mendoza, is the highest-elevation cultivated valley in the region. In this privileged location, the Zuccardi wines benefit from a cool and dry climate and a wide temperature range. The combination of multiple microclimates, altitudes, and soil types creates multiple terroirs. Zuccardi’s challenge is to faithfully interpret them and express their identities in the wines produced.

Ageing takes place in concrete tanks and part of the wine matures in French oak barrels. Zuccardi Malbec Valles is then blended and allowed to rest until ready for bottling.

The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed. They undergo cold maceration for 5-7 days before a traditional vinification with natural yeasts at a temperature of 25-27°C). Maceration follows for 20 days with periodic pump-overs and “delestage” (a fermentation and maceration technique that gently extracts phenolic compounds by oxygenating the juice).

Sebastián Zuccardi grew up in a family with a strong visionary and innovative spirit. Since 1963, when his grandfather planted the first hectares of grapevines in Maipú, Mendoza, the Zuccardi family has continued growing and developing. It has become a leader in Argentine wine production. From his father, José Alberto Zuccardi, Sebastián inherited the determination and desire to constantly strive for excellence. Today, Sebastián, representing the third generation of the family, finds himself leading a young team of agricultural engineers and oenologists, who are in charge of producing the highest quality wines in the Uco Valley. On his initiative, the winery has - since 2008 - set up a research and development area dedicated to studying the terroir and the diverse variables that affect wine quality. The goal, in Sebastián’s own words, is “not to strive for perfect wines, but wines that express the place, the region.”
