After harvest, the grapes were gently crushed to retain the integrity of the skins, essential for colour and tannin extraction. Fermentation is initiated with selected yeast strains in stainless steel tanks to add complexity. The temperature is closely regulated, to ensure a slow and controlled fermentation. Malolactic fermentation commenced in French oak barrels, softening the acidity and adding a creamy texture.

Nestled in the heart of the Simonsberg Paarl region, the vineyards at Vrede en Lust are celebrated for producing exceptional Syrah. The estate benefits from a unique microclimate and rolling terrain, that nurtures grapes to develop rich, bold flavours and a perfect balance of acidity and spice.

The wine was then aged for 16 months in a combination of new second-fill and older French oak barrels.
