From low-yielding, dryland bush vines in the Swartland. The 24-year-old vineyard grows mainly on decomposed granite soils.

Matured for 24 months in 300-litre French oak barrels: 50% new, 30% second-fill and 20% third-fill. The ten best barrels were selected for bottling.

Hand-picked early at 25.4° Balling, cold-soaked for 48 hours and inoculated. Punch-downs took place every six hours during five days of fermentation, peaking at 26°C. Pressed at 4° Balling; press wine was combined with free-run juice to finish fermentation. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel.

Travelling through the Swartland on the back of a truck, heading towards an auction, a Nguni cow knew a beautiful vineyard when she saw one and jumped off. She was appropriately named Survivor when the grower found her grazing in his vineyard.
