Winter 2016 was cold and dry in the Strandveld region compared to the previous wet winters. However in comparison to the rest of the Western Cape we were in a good position as all our dams were full in spring. Spring was very late with less wind than normal. This carried into November with beautiful windless Summer days, perfect for the vineyard's flower season and berry set. The result was one of our biggest crops to date. February was dry with cool South-easterly winds which provided perfect ripening conditions. We harvested the Semillon, growing on the white Quartz gravel, early in February and the Sauvignon was picked at full ripeness at the end of February from vines growing on Koffieklip gravel soils.

Strandveld Vineyards lies between Elim and Cape Agulhas, just 9km from the sea, shaped by strong winds, cool temperatures, and a maritime climate. Its unique terroir of coastal conditions and diverse soils gives the wines their distinctive character. Inspired by early explorers, the vineyards were established in 2001 by pioneers drawn to this rugged, promising landscape.
