In 2015 two Dave’s Wibberley and Nel set out to change the way people looked at a bottle of wine. Spider Pig Wines was the result based on the simple premise that great wine should create wine lovers rather than scare them away. Since then we’re all about producing quality and removing snobbery. Inviting engaging not intimidating. And as the demand for our wines has increased so have the many fantastic winemakers that we work with. So every bottle of Spider Pig has been made with a winemaker who shares this vision. A vision where what’s outside is fun but what’s inside is serious.
Description
Crunchy and light. Juicy mid palate with abundance of light red fruits. Totally smashable. Grenache is a wonderful grape. Called Garnacha in its' native Spain, it ripens late making it perfect for warmer climates like South Africa's. But none of this explains the label. "The Flying Pig" was the name we were going to give to the first Wine Bar we opened. Those plans are still on the cards. While 'WhenPigs Fly' is a phrase used to mark the happening of something that might or might not happen because it's so unlikely. Which sort of explains our Grenache Noir. Surprising, exciting, and impossibly delicious. Aptly named the FLYING PIG for many reasons. One that's exactly what Spider Pig is doing on the label. This was our first wine to be produced, it also happens to be the most popular red and 'fly's" out the door. The famed saying that certain things would only happen 'When Pigs Fly'. Well with Spider Pig they certainly are!!
