Old Vine Chenin Blanc

This Chenin can easily be enjoyed on its own, but can also complement dishes such as smoked pork, Cape Malay bobotie, or creamy seafood.

Fermentation was controlled at 14-16°C over a 14-day period and the wine was left sur lie for two months, resulting in a rich and textured palate.

Grapes were hand-picked at22.5 balling after which they were immediately crushed, destemmed and pressed. After overnight settling, the juice was racked off the gross lees; and a small amount of fine lees was added back to give texture of the wine. The juice was then transferred to a combination of stainless steel tank (50%) and neutral oak (50%) and inoculated with commercial yeast.

Lievland’s history dates back to 1715, when the original farm was granted to the ex-soldier Jurie Hanekom. Lievland lies on the western slopes of the Simonsberg mountains between Stellenbosch and Paarl, two of the most prominent wine-growing areas in the Cape. The climate, location, and soil on the slopes are conducive to the cultivation of high-quality grapes, and some of the Cape’s best-known wines are made here. Lievland is all about "the here and now", and their wines are made in a generous fruit-forward, well-extracted style.
