Falstaff is 8.2 miles (13 km) from the ocean at 505 feet (155 m) but, because it sits in a particularly foggy pocket, the Kutchs describe it as 'easily our coldest site. In 1999 owners Ron and Judy Lougheed planted the Goldridge soils to three different clones of Pinot Noir. Today they have managed to cultivate some of the most intense and smallest clusters of fruit we receive. With berries often the size of peas, our tiny yields are often below 1 ton per acre and while economics are challenged, the quality is bountiful.' Made the same way as the Sonoma Coast blend.

100% Whole-Cluster and aged in mostly neutral oak with no racking until July, when the wines were prepared for bottling.

Jamie Kutch’s route to winemaking began late. He had graduated in finance and found himself increasingly bored with the rat race of New York trading floor. As he became more and more fixated on wine and the industry, he would chuck it all in and relocate to California, armed with savings, a steadfast determination and unbridled passion to produce Pinot Noir. His inaugural releases came as recently as 2005. After a rocky road, Kutch is today considered one of the leading exponents of Pinot Noir, ever refining and thrilling for wines of refinement, brightness and translucent expression of place.
