Charisma is a vision born through Cellar Master Nico Grobler’s travel experiences over the world. Shiraz (Rhône Valley) contributes a lean, fresh structure with spicy undertones. Petit Verdot (Bordeaux) ads the richness of blueberries while the Sangiovese (Italy) component adds a light character with clean fruity flavours on the palate creating a boldly seductive and elegant wine.

All three cultivars are handpicked and cooled down. Only destemmed and not crushed. 10-15 day cold soaking before spontaneous fermentation. Shiraz: one pump over per day. Petit Verdot: two punch downs per day and Sangiovese: one walk through per day. After fermentation the wine is allowed to settle clean. Shiraz and Petit Verdot go into 500ℓ old Burgundian barrels and the Sangiovese will be blended into the previous vintage Charisma. All three cultivars are handpicked and cooled down. Shiraz (Eikendal): 20 year old block planted at the top of the farm overlooking False Bay, planted in a north/south row direction, 3 333 Vines/ha, under irrigation. Petit Verdot (Eikendal): 12 year old block planted next to the Shiraz. Planted in a north/south row direction, 3 333 Vines/ha, under irrigation. Sangiovese: 19 year old block from a producer in Stellenbosch. Planted in a north/south row direction, 3 333 Vines/ha.

Eikendal

Situated in the “Golden Triangle” of wine growing Eikendal vineyards flourish in a mountain and maritime microclimate ideal for the production of quality wine. Since 1981 the 76 hectare wine farm has been under the ownership of the Saager family from Zurich Switzerland. The Swiss owners recognised the great potential of the area and wasted no time in modernising the existing vineyards and establishing the cellar.
