Rosemary lamb chops, slow-roasted pork or mushroom risotto.

The maiden 2023 vintage comes from mostly bush-vine parcels grown by Willie Mostert on the cooler, south-facing slopes of Paardeberg, where vines are rooted in granitic soils.

Matured for 10 months in older 500-litre oak barrels before blending and bottling in January 2024.

The wine was made in two components: three Syrah clones co-fermented with a small proportion of stems, and a co-ferment of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan and Alicante Bouschet. Fermentation peaked at 26°C, with punch-downs and bucket-overs for gentle extraction. Malolactic conversion took place in older 500-litre oak barrels. No fining agents were used; the wine underwent coarse filtration before bottling.

Our approach in the cellar is as little as possible, as much as necessary: gentle handling, careful choices and patience, so that each wine can become a natural expression of its vineyard. For us Anco is more than a label. It is a personal journey and a statement of intent. Every wine we make is a reflection of what we value: balance authenticity and a respect for the land and the people who farm it.
