A 4th Generation Family Owned and managed wine business, beginning in the year 1946. The Steytler Family celebrated 75 years on the Bottelary Hills based property in Stellenbosch in 2021 and the hand over from 3rd to 4th generation in 2022. The portfolio focuses predominantly on the production of Chenin blanc and Pinotage, across 3 ranges, showcasing a different style of each of these varietals in each range.
Crafted in the traditional Cognac method, this 100% pot still brandy is produced exclusively from early-harvested Colombard grapes to retain optimal acidity and primary fruit character. Matured for two decades in a curated selection of seasoned oak casks from Limousin, Allier, Nevers, Eastern Europe, and the United States, each contributing unique tannin structures and flavour compounds.
Nose:
Highly complex and intense, the nose reveals layered tertiary notes: dried stone fruit (apricot, peach), candied citrus peel, roasted almonds, and subtle rancio characteristics. Hints of vanilla, butterscotch, and sweet spice derive from long-term oak interaction, with minimal wood tannin intrusion due to the use of seasoned barrels.
Palate:
The palate is exceptionally smooth, full-bodied, and texturally refined, with precise alignment to the aromatic profile.
Finish:
The finish is dry, persistent, and elegant - emblematic of mature, well-integrated Cape Brandy in the Cognac tradition.
