Tasting Notes:

Beautifully perfumed and umami nose with deep purple violets, black berries, fynbos and a twist of black peppercorn spice. Generous yet elegant, with leathery tannins and warm spice. The palate is layered with rich, intense and plush flavours of dark berries with fresh herbal notes – the quintessence of the variety.

Produced from our slightly drier Shiraz vineyard block on the Estate, located at a lower vineyard site with Oakleaf soils and a warmer micro climate. This Shiraz is produced in a classic style, bold in flavour with luscious black fruit characters and spice yet elegant due to the high altitude and proximity to the ocean.

With the first winter rainfall occurring at the end of May, it was one of the driest winters, which made for a challenging year. Winter was late but cold enough to ensure good dormancy in our vines. Hot temperatures from October resulted in earlier budding than 2015. Berries were smaller than usual with pleasing flavour concentration which made for a truly unique vintage.

Guiding our Grapes from Vine to Wine. Each individual barrel’s evolution is closely monitored throughout the total maturation period which, for our red varietals, can last for a period of up to 19 months.

High tannin wines like Shiraz pair well with fattier cuts of meat and cheeses, grilled and umami flavours as well as leafy vegetables with low tannin.
