Tasting Notes:

"Adam Mason is crafting a remarkable range of wines under his Raised by Wolves label, focusing on small parcels from individual growers. This whole bunch-fermented Muscat spent two weeks on skins and combines quince, kumquat and orange marmalade notes with stony reduction. An intriguing wine." TA

Raised by Wolves is the brainchild of Adam Mason, winemaker at Mulderbosch Vineyards. The name is a parody of the constant one-upmanship of winemakers: "My wine is a single vineyard." ... "Yeah, well my wine is naturally fermented." ... "Oh yeah, well my wine is hand sorted by berry." And Adam's response: "Well my wines are all of the above, and I was raised by wolves."

Carbonic maceration for 10 days prior to pressing has resulted in a pithily textured, highly aromatic expression of this ancient grape variety.

Once pressed, the almost dry must was transferred to neutral 500L barrels for completion of fermentation and further maturation of 6 months. After clean racking it was bottled immediately, so a harmless sediment may be evident.
