Two libertine, young-buck winemakers, Douglas Mylrea and Paul Hoogwerf, seek to craft minimal-intervention wines from stunning Cape vineyards out of a renovated Overberg barn, beneath a peak called Maanschynkop, giving the brand its name, "Moonschine". They do add that their cellar could be mistaken for an illicit moonshine operation. Pressless only a few days before they were to begin the Verdelho harvest, a much needed press appeared, generously offered to us by a wise, crafty old man a few properties down the road. He designed and built the press from the innards of a washing machine, a few pieces of marine ply and a car tire's inner tube. It worked like a charm! And so, the 'Spin Cycle 2017' was born.

The Verdelho fruit was harvested by hand from the slopes of the Voor-Paardeberg.

In the cellar, the fruit was divided into two components. Two thirds of the fruit was crushed, macerated overnight and pressed (with a handmade basket press) directly to aged barrels. The remaining third was whole-bunch fermented for two weeks. Both portions fermented naturally. The two components were blended once dry and matured in barrel for six months. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered; without the addition of any additives, other than a judicial splash of sulphur shortly before bottling.
