Tasting Notes:

The 2012 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Louis Jadot has a more complex bouquet compared to its peers with subtle yellow flower, beeswax and honeysuckle scents that gently waft from the glass. The palate is well balanced with a lightly honeyed entry and good presence in the mouth. It does not deliver otherworldly complexity, but there is a lot of "wine" here (to put it banally) with a pleasant tang of dried orange peel on the finish. This is worth seeking out.

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s esteemed winemaker, Jacques Lardière, and his team, have maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy.

Situated almost on the border between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, and at altitudes between 280 and 330 metres, much of the Corton- Charlemagne appellation faces south-west (which is uncommon in these parts). The Hill of Corton, high and rounded, has vineyards on three sides corresponding to the three villages of Aloxe-Corton (Climat: Le Charlemagne), Pernand-Vergelesses (Climat: En Charlemagne) and Ladoix-Serrigny (Climats: part or all of Pougets, Corton, Languettes).These vineyards were a gift of the Emperor Charlemagne to the religious community of Saint-Andoche de Saulieu in the year 775.
