Tasting Notes:

"The palate weight is creamy, textural and dense but remains fresh, vital and powerful with excellent varietal typicity. What’s perhaps most impressive about this wine is the way it holds its shape, vigour and presence in the glass over several hours… and then almost seems to tire of examination and starts to close up again." Greg Sherwood MW

In 2013, two winemakers - Elgin Ridge's Brian Smith and Luddite Wines' Niels Verburg - were having a beer. They were chatting about their shared love of Cabernet Franc and one suddenly said "So, why don't we make some". It was one of those spur of the moment decisions that quickly evolved into an exciting and unique winemaking journey with the no-so-insignificant goal of creating the best Cabernet Franc in South Africa.

From a Bot River vineyard planted in 1996.

Matured for 18 months in French oak, one new barrel, one second-fill and one third-fill.

Food pairing

Cabernet Franc blends pair well with grilled steaks and chops, Portobello mushrooms, green olives, pepper, rosemary, and mint.
