Tasting Notes:

Lightly tinted and medium bodied, this wine greets you on the nose with aromatic floral notes which follow through onto the palate with ripe strawberries, cherries, sweet spices and soft tannins on the mid palate.

This is the latest offering from Jasper Raats Single Vineyard Wines. “Die Plêk’’ literally means “the place” in Afrikaans and was the name Jasper gave the old Cinsault vineyard owned by his friend Rupert McNaught- Davis. They have been talking about making a wine from it for some time, as Jasper felt that block is “’just the place” for great old vine Cinsault.

Cinsault, or “Hermitage” as wine farmers like to call it, is a heritage cultivar from the Cape. The single vineyard bush vine dates back to 1974 and is meticulously cared for by hand. Due to its age, it renders naturally very low yields and are further farmed without irrigation.

This wine is made naturally and in a biodynamic way by not making use of any commercial yeasts, enzymes or fining agents. It is further not filtered or cold stabilized and may therefore in time show harmless sediment.

Die Plêk was matured in a combination of mature French oak barrels for 9 months.

Food pairing

Works quite well in pairings with stews, braised and roasted meat dishes like beef, lamb, goat, beef, duck.
