Tasting Notes:

The 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape Habemux Papam offers quality notes of garrigue, crushed flowers and perfumed red and black fruits. Medium-bodied, supple, forward and certainly enjoyable, it shows the more mid-weight style of the vintage, yet still has plenty to like. Most 2014s will evolve quickly, so it’s best drunk up in its youth.

A papal wine that draws its power and confidence from the soil of different vineyards situated in the north, east and the center of the appellation. Fine sands, red clay and sandstone, contribute to the overall picture, especially the vineyards called «Le Pradel» and «La Font du Pape». The translation of the Provencal name of the latter location refers to relatively humid soils on which Syrah, or its ancestor, the Sérine, expresses with particular freshness. The traditional blending of different vineyards and historical grape varieties of the region, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise, finds its raison d’être in the elegance and harmony of the wines it produces.

Vineyard situated in several parts of Châteauneuf-du-Pape called «Les Saintes Vierges», «La Font du Pape» and «Le Pradel». On the label we honour Jean XXII. Native of Cahors, he was the first pope to choose Avignon as residence. As well, he planted the papal vineyards and ordered to build a new castle (château neuf) in the place that should become Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Hand picked and sorted, whole bunch fermentation with punching down for gentle extraction.

8 months in casks (foudres) and terracotta jars.

Food pairing

White beans, duck confit, garlic sausage and smoky streaked bacon.
