Tasting Notes:

Attractive pale yellow colour. Fresh dusty apricot on the nose at first with ripe melon, lemon, honey, butter and roasted nuts. Freshness and elegance hiding real depth and richness. A lively, but still closed palate with dusty apricots, nuts, lemon and honey showing on a moderately rich mid-palate and a long dry, nutty finish.

Instead of a painting, an image of one of Rita’s exciting new hand printed scarf collection has been used for the label.

The 2016 is quite a stylistic departure due to the extreme weather conditions. One of the hottest, driest and certainly the earliest we’ve experienced.

Acidities were lower than usual and we thus fermented a small portion (about 4%) on the skins to add a greater phenolic (tannin) component to compliment the structure of the wine. We also included a little Viognier (4%) which further pushes the wine towards a White Rhone like Chenin Blanc. Of course, I think it’s great and a clear expression of the vintage.

All the wine was kept in 225 ℓ and a few 700 ℓ casks for 9 months with lees stirred 1 - 2 times a month initially. 15% new French oak used. No malolactic fermentation. Lightly fined with bentonite – a natural clay.

Food pairing

Southeast Asian cuisine or pork chops with apples.
