Tasting Notes:

A big and powerful wine, with tannins that are compact and dense. The dryness of the tannins go right to the core, surrounded by chocolate, sweet fruit and dark berry flavors. The wine is well structured, big and bold, with plenty of firmness promising aging.

Câteau Latour's Grand Vin is made solely from old vines in the original 47 ha of the Enclos. Only the unique terroir which predominates in the Enclos can, every year, produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of a great wine.

The winter was generally mild until the end of January and then February was very wet. Particularly fine weather in April prompted rapid, intense growth. May was generally rainy and cold. The weather in June and July brought alternating periods of humidity, rain and heat, which resulted in the development of mildew. Rainfall in August was twice the average. Fortunately, September was dry and sunny with warm temperatures during the day and very cold nights.

The production of the new wine is a period that literally bubbles with acidity. The winemaking team monitors, tastes, analyses, takes samples. Respect for the fruits is essential and we do everything possible to treat it with enormous care at every stage in order to create great wines. The vat room was fully renovated in 2001. It now consists of 66 stainless steel vats of various sizes (from 170hl to 12hl) enabling each plot to be made into wine separetely and for all the experiments to be carried out that are necessary for a better understanding of the subtleties of the terroir. Château Latour was one of the first Bordeaux properties to adopt stainless stell tanks for vinification in the 1960s.
