Tasting Notes:

"The 2013 Smith-Haut-Lafitte has a composed and quite refined bouquet, certainly one of the best that I have encountered on the Left Bank, with wild strawberry mixed with cedar and a touch of graphite. The palate is smooth on the entry, the oak nicely integrated, almost Pinot-like in texture with a prickle of spice on the finish." WA

Smith-Haut-Lafitte was bought by the Cathiard family in 1990, its prestigious history dates back to 1365 when the first vines were planted. Full of character, the chateau has a world class spa specialising in vinotherapie. Unlike many in Bordeaux the estate produces excellent white and red wines from their handpicked grapes.

Harvest started late with old vines of Merlot on the 3 rd of October followed by the Cabernets on the 8 th . Due to humid weather we had to be very responsive to pick up the different plots at the right time. We therefore mobilized the efforts of over 200 harvesters and our two grapes reception areas.

Whole uncrushed grape berries fermented in small oak vats at 28°C and extraction with manual pigeage (punching down the cap).

Aged in barrel on the lees for 18 months (60% new barrels, made at the estate's own cooperage) and only racked once. Duration of ageing was adjusted to each wine.
