Tasting Notes:

Bright red with purple highlights on the rim, a great depth of colour, with brilliance and vibrancy: the first visual cues as to the excellence of this wine. Great aromatic intensity offering a broad spectrum of concentrated fruit, raspberry and black liquorice aromas, with a backdrop of fragrant balsamic herbs. Mature red fruits in perfect harmony with sweet spices in the foreground and a background of vanilla and eucalyptus. Lively, with great personality, it fills the mouth wth fruit flavours and silky tannins of great quality. Delicate, elegant, delicious, with persistence and a long, broad and well-balanced finish.

At the foot of Laguardia, between the Sierra de Cantabria and the sinuous course of the Ebro, Bodegas Palacio keeps the dynamic spirit of its origins alive, that moment in 1894 when Cosme Palacio took charge of the family winery. Here the treasure is in the vines. Protected by the imposing rocks of the Sierra Cantabrian Mountains, the tempranillo and viura vines find their ideal conditions. High altitude, chalky-clay soils, south facing, a unique microclimate with Mediterranean and Atlantic influences. A great potential for finesse, nurtured with the utmost care.

Alcoholic fermentation: the grapes are destalked but not crushed, and after a long maceration they are fermented in stainless steel tanks with automatic control of the temperature, pumping-over and micro-oxygenation. The malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, adding layers of spices and a smoother, more appealing character.

Aged for 12 months in 225 litre French oak barrels with at least 10 months in bottle. The barrels are lightly toasted, hand-cleft barrels from the very best French cooperages.

Food pairing

Roast lamb or tender lamb cutlets grilled over vine clippings.
