Tasting Notes:

"Marked by aromas of crushed stone and cracked pepper, the 2016 Saint Joseph comes from two parcels: one near Tournon and the other in St-Désirat. The stems are barely noticeable here, meshing beautifully with cherry fruit and helping to refine the silky tannins. Medium to full-bodied, this offers complex notes of tea, olive and espresso on the long finish." WA

Domaine Alain Graillot is the undisputed king of Crozes-Hermitage. Having consistently produced an honest reflection of the Northern Rhône for 25 years, Alain’s son Maxime Graillot took over from him in 2008. The wines however are still made in an elegant, old-school style. Favouring savouriness and fragrance over oak and sweetness, whole bunch fermentation is key with the Graillot’s organically-farmed, old vine Syrah.

The grapes are sourced from two parcels in St. Joseph: 40-55% of fruit from the St-Jean-de-Muzols (planted in 2003) and 45-60% from the Saint-Désirat (planted in 1988).

Most of the grapes are whole cluster fermented, with de-stemming primarily occurring for the Saint-Désirat bunches. Each vineyard is fermented in separate tanks. The juice is pumped over and punched down according to winery practices.

The wine is aged in 5-10% new oak and 90% in 1-6 year old casks, for 12 months. The wine is un-fined and filtered.
