The Fable Mountain Vineyards up against the slopes of the Witzenberg Mountain range focusses on producing the purest expressions of Rhône varieties this side of the mountain, while balancing winemaking and farming. The isolated farm is high up on the edge of a Wilderness Nature Reserve and it is here at elevations of 400-650m that 32 hectares of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache noir mature at their own pace.
At the helm of The Fable Mountain Vineyards story is Charles Banks, a well-known enthusiast and champion of South African wines and also the Founding and Managing Partner at Terroir Selections. Charles acquired Fable in 2010 and Mulderbosch Vineyards in Stellenbosch a year later.
In early 2016 Terrior Selections appointed Tremayne Smith as winemaker at Fable Mountain. Tremayne first started cultivating his talent under celebrated wine maker, David Trafford as Assistant Winemaker and Vineyard Manager at Sijn Wines. After four years Tremayne moved to Mullineux and Leeu Family Wines as Assistant Winemaker where he won recognition as a game-changing Young Gun.
